Units
The unit is the most important component of MCCC. Without these units, MCCC will find it difficult to function and to exist and to carry out its objectives and programmes. Individual members make up these units. They are like the cells of a living organism. Each unit should be made up of between four to eight members but not more than ten or less than three.
MCCC members are therefore concerned about forming units so as to be able to function and to carry out their mission.
The units come together for their Gospel Sharing at a place and time agreed by all members of the unit. Units should meet regularly, not only for their weekly gospel sharing, but for other activities as often as they possibly can so as to build unity and cohesiveness.
The format of the meetings should take a form similar to this: Opening Prayer, Sunday Gospel, Reflection, Questions, Sharing, Gospel Action, Prayer of Intercessions (see Gospel Sharing under Resources) and any other items that may be deemed appropriate by the unit members.
A facilitator normally leads the meeting and may be helped by an assistant from time to time or the unit may decide to rotate the leadership of the meeting. Observers are welcome to join the meeting only by consensus of the unit members. They are not considered members and therefore are not under any form of obligations or any decisions agreed upon by the unit as a result of the sharing in the unit.
The Gospel Sharing that takes place is the main focus of the unit meeting and should always result in some form of action that is to be undertaken by the group on the whole or individually. In this way, it can be seen that the unit is functioning as a living cell of the Body of Christ, acting on his Word and making it alive by how the members act the word out in their lives. In any case, unit members are to take an active role in their own local parish.
The Eucharist too is an important aspect of the units. It has to be constantly stressed that members of the units must attend the Sunday Eucharist of their local parish. It is the Eucharist which gives life to the units and connects the members to the whole Church.
There may be many units in one area or parish and from time to time the Area facilitator will arrange for all the units to come together for special days of recollection and talks. Unit facilitators will come together to meet to discuss certain issues pertaining to their units.
Units' financial contributions
Each unit is expected to contribute financially to the central fund to aid those working as overseas missionaries as well as to finance the workings of the mission centres. The mininum contribution per year per unit is calculated based on the number of members in the unit. Based on a contributon of $200 per member per year, a unit with four members is expected to contribute a minimum total of $800 in the local currency, while a unit with five members, a minimum of $1000. Each unit is to decide how best it can come up with the amount. The units can either raise the funds or members may decide to contribute indivually. There is no upper limit to the amount each unit can contribute.
