Forming a Unit
Normally a unit facilitator gathers the unit members together for the meeting but it may happen that there is no unit facilitator in your area or country of residence. It is still possible to form your own unit and facilitate a Gospel Sharing session using the materials that can be found in the resources section of this website.
To do this, gather your friends or interested individuals together and explain what MCCC is all about. Another possibility is to contact the relevant authorities (Area facilitator) to arrange for a presentation to be held at a time and place to be agreed upon.
It may not be easy to begin a unit without some kind of interest on the part of those whom you invite. It may happen that you invite your friends but they are not totally convinced of the gospel sharing sessions or are willing to give up a few hours a week to come together. The excuse usually is that they go to church every Sunday, are already actively involved in church and that they have many work and family commitments and therefore it is a bit too much to expect them to come together for a two hour session every week. It is usually no use to challenge such individuals who have their minds already made up about how they are going to spend their time for God and that always means 'in my time' and 'by myself'.
The idea of coming together to listen and to share and to learn and to act upon the word of God as a group may indeed sound frightening to many but that is what the church is all about, the family of God, and not about individuals wanting to do the Lord's work in their own time and in their own way. Many individuals would prefer to volunteer service under their own personal terms but it has to be stressed that MCCC is about service that comes about through reflecting upon the Word and empowered by the Eucharist, service that reveals the love of Christ and not charity for its own sake.
Ideally, each member should aim at forming a unit but it is more likely that two or three members may get together to invite friends to join them to form a unit together.
Is it possible to be in two units? The situation may arise whereby a facilitator of a unit is already a member of another unit. He may have been called to assist in facilitating a newe group. It may also be possible that a member has plenty of time to be in two units.
